Nineteen years of recommendations for The Glenbrook

"It all began when my wife and I stayed with a friend in the Leabrook Place area, when we first saw The Glenbrook starting to be built..."

Retired Colonel Peter Scott DSO and his wife Gwenda, were considering a move from McLaren Vale to be closer to medical facilities and hospitals, not wanting to risk leaving his ill wife in a large home with a pool and large gardens for her to maintain.

The couple were regular visitors to Adelaide enjoying the shopping, cricket and theatre, however, after looking at other retirement villages, they hadn't found anything they liked.

Then, one afternoon Peter received a phone call letting them know an apartment at The Glenbrook was available. "We inspected it and decided to buy it on the spot and paid our deposit that day."

The fact they were often away became easy to just lock up and go, compared to the preparation required before leaving your own house and garden.

Being a Legatee for nearly 30 years, including two terms as Legacy President, Peter has attended annual meetings of Legacy Australia and continues to travel for ceremonies and memorial events both interstate and overseas.

"The beauty of living here is that you can continue living your own life, participating in the events here as much as you would like to. The area is very good for walking and you have Burnside Village close by," Peter noted.

"Apart from packing my travelling bag, the only thing to do when I go away is to discontinue my newspaper."

When people ask people about living here, he tells them; "I've been living here, very happily, for 19 years. Isn't that recommendation enough?"
